Damage  Damage Paperback – January 3, 2012

Wes Farrell, the lawyer who appeared in A Certain Justice (1995) and Guilt (1997), has a new job: he is San Fransisco’s new district attorney. And his first case looks like it’s going to be a doozy. Ten years ago, Roland Curtlee, scion of a wealthy and powerful family, was convicted of the rape and murder of a family employee. Now he’s been let out pending a retrial (on what seems an especially nit-picky technicality). When the first trial’s chief witness appears to be killed in a house fire, and someone else involved in the case dies under similar circumstances, Wes must fend off pressure from the Curtlee family and find the truth in a case that’s full of confusion and lies. Naturally, he turns to his old friend and colleague, Abe Glitsky, the homicide cop who acts as a sort of link between the Farrell novels and Lescroart’s series featuring attorney Dismas Hardy (who also appears, in a minor role, in this book). Another solid, well-constructed legal thriller from the popular author. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: How’s this for a track record: more than 8.5 million copies of Lescroart’s novels have been sold in the past decade, and his books have been translated into 16 languages in more than 75 countries. Piggy-backing on all that, his latest will profit from a six-figure marketing campaign. --David Pitt --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Felix has the same gift his father had of keeping you guessing. Thoroughly enjoyed this book as I have with all of the books he has written with his father Dick and since his fathers passing. It is definitely a great way to spend an evening or anytime for that matter.

Damage Damage [Kindle Edition]
I don't know why I picked this book up, but I'm glad I did. This has to be the most intense book I've ever read. Don't let the fact that it's written in second person (y'know, like "You get up and you put on your shoes") scare you off. That only makes you feel like you are right there in Austin's head, looking out. Except Austin is trying to get away from himself, so he has to think of what's happening as happening to someone else, not to him. Lot's of other great characters like Austin's best friend Curtis and his girlfriend Heather who is obsessed with keeping the surface of her life perfect and when she finds out Austin isn't the perfect guy she thought he was, he doesn't fit into her plans. Read this book! I promise you won't be able to put it down.

Damage The Tusk That Did the Damage

Damage The Tusk That Did the Damage

Review

The Tusk That Did the Damage is one of the most unusual and affecting books I’ve read in a long time. Narrated by a poacher, a filmmaker, and, most brilliantly, an elephant, this is a compulsively readable, devastating novel.”
—Jonathan Safran Foer

The Tusk That Did the Damage is a novel of great moral intensity, with the pacing of a thriller. Everyone is implicated. Everyone is righteous. Tania James’ gift, her genius, is to turn this scenario into an occasion for grace.”
—Julie Otsuka

The Tusk That Did the Damage is spectacular, a pinwheeling multi-perspectival novel with a cast that includes my favorite character of recent memory, ‘the Gravedigger,’ an orphaned homicidal elephant.  Tania James is one of our best writers, and here she is at the height of her powers:  brilliant, hilarious, capable of the most astonishing cross-cultural interspecies ventriloquies and acrobatic leaps of empathy.  You will read this ravishing novel in an afternoon and immediately want to press it on your favorite people.”
—Karen Russell

"The third book from Tania James, The Tusk That Did the Damage will leave you breathless as you follow three narrators across the wild plains of India."

This story is not hard SF. However it's well written and quite entertaining. I look forward to his work. One more word required ... hard to bother.

This was wasn't your basic one dimentional action movie as they were able to tell more than one story as each of the main characters did have an issue to overcome. The acting was good & Steve Austin did his role well. The action here was completely based on mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting with a hardcore element at times with weapons being occassionally used but for just straight fistfights...they come off very brutal & realistic.

In the end, if your a fan of heavy fight scenes that rely on "street fighting" over other ways of film action (explosions, gunfire, heavily chorographed fight scenes) then this is definately a movie worth checking out.

Holly lives with her father in a small villiage, since her mother died she has been working more than one job to pay the bills and attending art school. Her cousin owns a cleaning business and calls her to give her a chance for a regular cleaning job for the lord of the local manor. When she arrives the first day she sees the aftermath of one of the weekend parties that are talked about in the village. After introducing herself to Nicolas Blunt, she finds out that she will be cleaning only his private rooms.

Nicolas is emotionally as well as physically damaged after a car accident took the life of his wife the year before. He has a reputation of being very closed off and hostile, which Holly finds out is true to some degree. They soon find that they are attracted to each other, but they both have emotioal issues which may be too difficult for them to overcome. They will have to learn to let themselves love each other. This is a wonderful romance with a lot of ups and downs, and I loved it!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

Good fun, a fast pace, and genuinely unputdownable. The 50th Francis book is both an homage to the father and a tribute to the son's great writing talent. What an incredible book. The main storyline, which delves deep into the world of the British Horseracing Authority, could have stumbled into the realm of boring under another author's reins, but not so here. Even the internal politics and board meetings are suspenseful and move the story along at a nice, crisp pace. Like every Francis book, the story simply flows. And so much action! No less than four sub-stories ride along with the main plot, all interesting and not always easy to address, and the author handles each one with great sympathy and sensitivity. (I'd say more but it would be a spoiler.) Felix Francis again demonstrates a true, empathetic understanding of what motivates people to act as they do. I rather liked being inside Jeff Hinkley's head as he thinks through his personal relationship while thinking his way through to the ultimate villainous conclusion. As an added bit of fun, long-time Dick and Felix Francis readers should watch for a little inside baseball humor in a conversation Jeff has with his colleague Crispin about watching out for all the possible things that can go wrong at a race meet.
Felix Francis continues to surpass himself with each book which makes it hard to pick a favorite, but this is certainly on the short list and one I already look forward to reading again. Like I do all Francis books. A bit earthier than I am used to with this author, some welcome humor, compassion, interesting bits of trivia and history woven throughout, and a heck of a yarn to boot. As my British friends have taught me to say, I'm chuffed! The 50th book is a splendid addition to the Francis library, and my own. Bravo, Felix.
